Busy Day
Photo taken over Christmas during the candy toss at the Northern Store in Cape Dorset. This is just before the employees come out with the candy. Most of the community was there.

Lonely Travel
Two snowmobiles returning to Iqaluit from being on the land.
The lights are kilometres away. I was using my Olympus 300mm (600mm film equivalent) at max zoom and no photo cropping to get the photo above.

Helicopter
Helicopter over Iqaluit
A photo just before going down to have supper. Haven't seen the menu yet but I got a feeling it will be the Danish Back Ribs tonight. Yummy!
Travelling Man
I'm still travelling and won't be back until Thursday. I do have my gear with me and will be trying to post while I'm gone. There are many distractions while on the road and by the time I make it back to my hotel room I don't feel like blogging. I will try to change that on this trip.

Go Canada!
I'm on the road for the next five days and didn't have time to do a beard update today so instead you get a photo of the Canadian flag that has been sitting on my desk since I got here. I don't watch much of the Olympics but I do enjoy the Skeleton competitions and the Olympic hockey. So like the title says....!Go Canada!

More Cute Pets
In keeping with the cute animal theme I've had going the last couple of weeks here are some photos of Tiki the dog. I've known Tiki since he was a little pup and even had the chance to own him but with three cats it wasn't going to happen. The owners live in the apartment next to my parents and every lunch I pat and play with him. He gets excited when he sees me and will even try to block me from getting up the steps until I've given the required attention.
What are you doing? What's that thing in your hands?
Why aren't you patting me!
:o(
How can you not love a face like that. LOL

The Sun Show
This is always my favourite time of the year in the North because the Sun is at the perfect height throughout the day to create the displays in the photo below. This photo was taken at around 1:15 pm today as the sun was skirting along the horizon behind Nipple Mountain. There was an incredible show this morning but by the time I got the snowmobile running, myself dressed and the camera up and running I had missed the sight. Maybe tomorrow I might get lucky. More to hopefully come.

A Sliver of Moon
What is really neat is the sky in the opposite direction looked like a green sun was rising. Should be a good night for northern lights. Might go out and give the camera another try.

The Beard Vote Results
The votes are in!
There was a total of 20 votes with 16 for sexy beards and 4 what were you thinking. So the beard growing experiment will continue for at least another week. Tomorrow will be the end of week three of growing the beard and I will post another beard update either Friday or Saturday of next week. I am travelling Friday so more than likely it will be on Saturday Feb 20th.

Look at all the white.
*sigh*
I wonder if the "No play for Mister Grey" is true?

The Mew Mew Train
Both cats seemed to be enjoying being dragged around in a box so it didn't take long to figure out two boxes could be tied together for loads of fun. Both Bandit and Sweetpea really enjoyed the novelty of being dragged around the house in the boxes. Both cats couldn't figure out what made them move and constantly would swat at the bottom of the boxes. Alfie (the big cat) seemed interested in the display but he just wouldn't fit in either box.
Bandit insisted on being in the lead box.

Lights Out
The power in the community went out Thursday night for about 10 minutes. The photo below was taken just as the power returned up the hill. The rest of us got power back soon after. You don't realize how dark it is in the Hamlet until the lights go out. I heard and saw a lot of snowmobiles start up and start cruising around town soon after the lights went out and this is seems to be similar to a snow storm in the Maritimes when everyone goes out driving with their four wheel drives.

The Beard
I'm attempting to grow a beard and will finish week 2 on Saturday. The real itchy period passed on Monday so it should be easier from here on in. Not sure if I want to keep going or shave it off. I haven't grown my facial hair since my late teens early twenties. The only difference I can see is it grows faster and there is a lot of white in it. This will also be the topic of my first ever blog poll. If the vote is to keep the beard (fuzz?) then I will be doing a weekly photo update.
Shave or grow!
The blog poll will end Friday, Feburary 12, 2010
