My Brother

My brother Mark just left a comment saying he enjoyed all the new stuff but there wasn't a picture of him on the site. I was going to respond that the blog is supposed to be orientated to northern ramblings but then I remembered that he recently spent a few weeks in Resolute Bay with the Rangers training in arctic survival for the military. Here is a picture of my brother showing why you must always wear proper gear in the north. It is said that once you have frostbite it is easier for it to happen again.

Michele's Beast

This is the social services van that Michele uses on a daily basis. As rough as it looks it gets everyone around the community. I can't find a single panel on the van that hasn't been damaged at some time or another. But it works.

Canadian Tire

The fog finally left for a couple of days earlier this week but it is back with rain, snow and wind. With the warm weather the ice and snow is starting to melt leaving a large gap in Tellik Inlet. In another month it will probably all be gone.
I had to go out to take pictures of the Canadian Tire (metal dump) for work. I have a project on the go there involving sorting all the waste into separate piles. There is federal money in the project so regular updates have to be sent and they like pictures. Unfortunately there is still 12ft snow over every thing and not much to take pictures of. I did snap this picture on the right of Kingait mountain looking up through a snow bank. It looks like the picture was taken in the clouds. The pictures that went to the feds were more mundane than this one.
We haven't been doing much in the last week but IQ day is coming and plans are to go out fishing and it should be coming up in the next couple of weeks. A friend of mine has offered the use of is snowmobile for me to use on the trip. That may change once he realizes I have never drove one. :)

Shitty Situation

These guys work 7 days a week to keep our tanks empty. We may close our windows and doors when you pull up but it isn't because we don't appreicate you. Once again thanks for keeping us out of a shitty situation.

The Fog

Welcome to spring time in Cape Dorset. Temperature is nice outside at 0C but you can't actually see anything. Yes that is Kingait Mountain is in the background of the picture. We hope to see it again sometime. We haven't had a plane in the community since Saturday afternoon so the skies have been quiet. Haven't worn the heavy winter coat since Last Thursday afternoon.

Kingait Duck

A friend of Michele's dropped by today and gave us a goose to eat. Michele is going to prepare the duck for cooking and we shall see what northern duck taste like. Caribou, bear, duck oh my.

The sun has come out finally. The temperature here has been hovering around the 0C mark last couple of days. We'll see about going for a walk after supper. It doesn't get dark until 11:00 pm so we should be out enjoying it.

Some children were out making snowmen in the wet snow. I even made a couple of snowballs in the unusually wet snow. Normally the snow is so dry that it has the consistency of dry powder.

All is Zen

With help form the Creative website my Zen mp3 player is working again. Yaaaaa.

To Zen and Back

I dropped my Zen mp3 player today and it don't work no more. *sigh* The shinny surface on the screen is the plastic protective covering. I never took it off. The Zen does have a recovery mode that I will keep trying and if that doesn't work I will try formatting it. But I must face the music and accept the fact I may just have an expensive paper weight. *sigh*

Michele Travelling

Michele left last night to travel to Iqaluit to attend a course. The flight was originally supposed to leave at 4:30 pm but was delayed until 11:30 pm. The plane didn't get unloaded until 12:30 am and the plane didn't get off the ground until 12:45 am. She landed in Iqaluit at 2:00 am then a 1/2 hour wait for a taxi finally arriving at the hotel at almot 3:00 am. Didn't take to long to go from the airport to the hotel but Michele had to battle through all the drunks leaving the bar. But she made it and is safe.

Comments

Hey folks. I've received a couple of emails from people saying they can't leave comments on the blog unless they sign up for Google or Blogger accounts. All you have to do to skip this is to pick on Name/URL and leave your name. The URL is optional and you don't have to enter it. Another option is to pick the Anonymous button and you just leave your name in the body of the message. Just as simple as that. I had to change some of the comment features because of an increase in spam. We do enjoy reading peoples comments and suggestions. One of the suggestions we received was to have our own (M&M) pictures on the site as you see on the right bar. I also have the comments set to pop up in their own window now. Fancy.

Thanks again.
