Park Bird

What kind of bird are they?
Thanks to my knowledgeable readers they are Purple Sandpipers - Caldris maritima.
There is two of them in this photo.
This was the first bird at the park I almost stepped on.

  1. They look like sandpipers. Possibly Baird's Sandpiper, but I'm definitely not an expert!

  2. That was my guess too Heather but didn't want to stick my neck out on the blog. I do know there are some bird smart folks who stop by from time to time.

  3. They are Purple Sandpipers Matthew. Caldris maritima. They are a very approachable bird, and like the closely related Rock Sandpiper of the west, spend much of their time on rocky shores.
