First Sealift

The first sealift of the season came in this weekend. There is a huge pile of crates and seacans on the beach. We won't be getting our sealift until the last ship of the season this year.
Cute little tugboat snuggling up to mother ship.

Mystery Ship

Another cargo ship came in yesterday and left yesterday. Apparently it was unscheduled and several people got surprise wake up calls that their stuff was in and come get it now. Michele and I went out to take photos of the ship but it was gone. The only thing that we had seen was a barge taking some backhall to the ship. So instead of a ship photo you get another iceberg photo. They were the only thing floating around out there yesterday.

Sea Crate & News

We got our crate of goodies which was delivered to our apartment. The crate has all our dry goods for the entire year in it. Cereal, pop, sugar, peanut butter, chips, flour, etc. everything except frozen goods. The crate was not supposed to be delivered too our apartment it was supposed to be put into temporary storage because we are in the process of purchasing a house. We should be in the house in the next couple of weeks. That is the news part of this blog.

This is the only picture I will get of the crate because if came apart on its way from the apartment to the warehouse. We lost a bit of stuff to damage but we came out okay. 1589kg or 2 1/2 tonnes in one crate with 2x2 framing on the end and in the middle and a thin metal strap on each end. That is what $1600 buys ya. The company we have used the last couple of years has been doing a poor job when it comes to getting the orders correct, shipping and overcharging. I think they even sent me drywall compound on this order. I didn't think a grocery store sold drywall compound. This year we will be taking an accurate inventory and making them come good for the screw ups.

This will be the last time because from now on we will be using a 20' sea can. Either we will have enough stuff to fill a sea can or we will share and split the cost with another couple up here. A sea can can be purchased for about $2800 used or rented for about $800 a year. They make a great little garage.

OK I know it's been awhile since we posted! So here are a few points of interest. In Iqaluit they are doing cold weather testing on a huge plane ( Airbus ) . It looked like it has multi-levels on it! Matt will be going to Iqaluit on Sunday for training with his job and will be leaving me for about a week. I will be giving him a list of "goodies" to bring back with him. The weather has been really good. Been out walking. Pippie ( our dog ) got her hind leg caught in the metal grate we have for outside steps when we first arrived here. It swelled up quite badly and she was chewing on it. Blech! What a mess! So my daily routine has been to wash it with ebson salts, put polysporin on it ( I called my vet in New Brunswick ) and buffered aspirin, and wrapping it with gauze ( that cost $6.00/roll here ) twice a day. I ran out of first aid tape I was using to keep it on and they don't sell it here! And have ran out of the two boxes of gauze!!!! HAHA, and have received a care box from my Mom with Emu oil, which I am now putting on her. Would you believe the swelling has gone down 3/4 of what it was! I am happy because she is nine years old now and really don't want this to be her demise. Ask me if I am looking forward to our three cats ever needing vet care. For all you guys "down south" we don't have any and I think there was rumblings of a vet in Iqaluit. And round trip for me and the dog would be about $1000.00. If it came down to it I wouldn't hesitate. We wanted to also say Hi to all who are visiting our blog! To family and friends in the "south" Our Daughter,The NB Price's, "The 'Cookers"The Nowlan's, The Giles', The Sussex TD Bank Girls (who should be working...hehe) The Ferland's,The Hayes' The Taylor's and the ones I missed, we thank you for your support. We are loving it here, and enjoying all new experiences were are having. And to Master Corporal Price we will pray for your safe tour in Afghanistan, we love you! We will post new pics when we get more. Here is one of the Moon at Noon time just after New Years.
