Monster on the Horizon

Fooled you a little with the title?
This big iceberg was on the horizon and to far away to go see with the time we had left.

Just a massive piece of ice.

Sunk Boat

We went to the store today and noticed one of the boats only had the nose still sticking out of the water.   Apparently it belongs to the Mayor of Cape Dorset.  The photos below were taken from our house.  I'm really missing my big zoom lens.

Good thing the anchor and buoy held the boat in place.

A couple of guys to the rescuer.  The water is very rough at the moment. There were lots of white caps on the Inlet today.

Towing the boat back to shore.  The boat should be fine but the motor might not like the salt water.

3 for 1

It looks like three icebergs but it's just one big one with the most of it hiding under the water.

I know lots of iceberg photos.
More to come yet.

Polar Bear Skull

While at the Thule sites we also came across this very old bear skull close to one of the dwellings.

Another Iceberg

I did take photos other than of icebergs.
Wish the lighting and weather had been better but the water was calm.

V is for Iceberg?

Kind of looks like the face from V is for Vendetta.

What is the iceberg looking at? Another example of pareidolia.

See more examples here and here.

Netting Arctic Char

So many char were caught the net had to be hauled back in before being fully deployed.  The fish were huge.

Seal of Approval

At various times during our adventure we would see the lone seal checking us out.  They didn't come very close but we weren't looking for lunch anyway.  They were very curious.

Not the best photo but with my long zoom lens broken this is as good as it gets.

More Icecubes

Even though the lighting was horrible for most of the day I still took over 600 photos of iceburgs while out on the boat.  So get used to seeing a few photos of them on the blog this month.

Whale Bone

It looked like a rock but it's actually a large whale bone.  Could easily be from the 18th century.

An Icy Amphitheater

This iceberg from our trip looked like an amphitheater.

Mastodon Flower

It is the tallest flower in Nunavut and can be found around wet marshy areas.  It is the most common annual plant species found in the eastern arctic.

A cluster of pretty yellow flower heads and broad leaves.

Duck Waddle

During our tour we came upon a pond that was low on water and in the drying mud we seen the print of some ducks.  Look close and you will see the little tracks left by the baby ducks.

Scary Boat

We had two boats out on our trip due to the number of people going.  During the snapping of a photo of our companion boat I didn't notice the lens had fogged up.

Turned out to be an interesting surreal photo.
