Bozo the Seagull

I forgot this photo on the last post.  This particular Seagull was the only one that showed no fear of me at all and would eat alone and turn it's back on me.  The seagull would always be standing with it's two legs crossed and one wing hanging down.  It didn't have any trouble walking or flying so it wasn't injured.  Made for an entertaining few minutes.

Every time I giggled this is how it would look at me.

Moon Walk?

No it isn't a photo of footprints on the moon just my footprint in the snow.  I was playing with the photo in Photoshop and got the result below.

Hi Def Blog

I am not obsessed with my blog. Maybe if I put a third TV to the right.  Yaaa.

This is also the 300th post on the blog.  Never thought it would last this long.

Post for Megan.

This is a special post just for Megan at the Snow-Covered Hills Blog.
If I can spot spelling and grammar errors it must be bad.  LOL.

The Beard Vote Results

The votes are in!
There was a total of 20 votes with 16 for sexy beards and 4 what were you thinking. So the beard growing experiment will continue for at least another week. Tomorrow will be the end of week three of growing the beard and I will post another beard update either Friday or Saturday of next week. I am travelling Friday so more than likely it will be on Saturday Feb 20th.

Look at all the white.
*sigh*
I wonder if the "No play for Mister Grey" is true?

The Mew Mew Train

Both cats seemed to be enjoying being dragged around in a box so it didn't take long to figure out two boxes could be tied together for loads of fun. Both Bandit and Sweetpea really enjoyed the novelty of being dragged around the house in the boxes. Both cats couldn't figure out what made them move and constantly would swat at the bottom of the boxes. Alfie (the big cat) seemed interested in the display but he just wouldn't fit in either box.

Bandit insisted on being in the lead box.

The Beard

I'm attempting to grow a beard and will finish week 2 on Saturday. The real itchy period passed on Monday so it should be easier from here on in. Not sure if I want to keep going or shave it off. I haven't grown my facial hair since my late teens early twenties. The only difference I can see is it grows faster and there is a lot of white in it. This will also be the topic of my first ever blog poll.  If the vote is to keep the beard (fuzz?) then I will be doing a weekly photo update.

Shave or grow!

The blog poll will end Friday, Feburary 12, 2010

Archery

I tried archery for the first time about 15 years or so ago and this weekend I had the opportunity to go out again. Had some pain when the string slapped my arm above the armguard creating a wicked looking welt that is now settling in to be a pretty bruise. The way everyone else cringed at the slapping sound it probably would have hurt really bad if it had not gone instantly numb. My shoulder is a little stiff but not sore from the unaccustomed work. I did manage to get the only bullseye of the afternoon. I will be going back again and will try to get some photos of the arrow in flight.  Might keep score next time too.

Inside the school.  Many bad memories came back at this moment.

The bucket of arrows.

Behind the screening at the targets.  For some reason they wouldn't let me stay back here.

The actual foam targets.

My best grouping of shots.  I forgot to take a photo of my bullseye.

A Birds Eye View

My house is just to the left of center with the brown roof.  My parents purchased the building with the red roof to the left of mine.  My boss lives in the bigger house to the right of center with the grey roof.

Google earth is fun.

Pareidolia

How about that for a title?

Wikipedia says Pareidolia is a psychological phenomenon involving a vague and random stimulus being perceived as significant.  Common examples include seeing images of animals or faces in the clouds, the man in the moon, and hearing hidden messages on records played in reverse.

Below is an example of Pareidolia I found in the rocks.  Do you see it?

Reminded me of Easter Island.

999

A little of topic for a northern blog but today is 09/09/09. It won't be until 01/01/2101 that we will see a date with repeating single digit dates.

Should have some more photos posted soon, if not later today, from Ottawa. I will be back in Cape Dorset on Friday.

Like Father Like Son

My Mom took the photo below of Dad and me leaning on the railing at the Government of Nunavut building in Cape Dorset. Now your first thought may be look at the lazy government employees but this photo was taken at about 10 minutes left to go at lunch. So the next question logically would be why are we leaning on the railing? Well we both left to eat lunch at Dad and Moms apartment and left our jackets behind with our keys in them. We had to wait for someone to come along and unlock the door for us. Yep like Father like Son.

Note. The little guy is Dad.
On the Maxim magazines top 100 feared men of all time, Dad's ranked in at 38th. What shriveled up old Bastard can still put the fear of God in you.

Man Lands in M&M Face

I don’t usually draw much of the weird crowd to my blog. Most Google searches that land on my site are about the north or various communities. Surprisingly my blog post “Worst. Meal. Ever.” gets a lot of searches from someone in Ontario. (Whoever you are I’m sorry but the meal sucked monkey balls.) Another odd thing is when someone is searching for Qikitarjuaq my blog is the second option. I've spotted a couple of new ones that are “qiniq christmas” and “inuit IQ day”. The “qiniq christmas” one will take them to my “Letter to Qiniq” blog post. Sorry if you are an employee with Qiniq but I was having a bad day.

It seems today I got my first weird one called “man lands in m&m face”. Apparently some comedian guy landed in the singer M&M’s lap after a failed stunt at the MTV awards and gave him a face full of man but. I seen the highlight on the news and it looked to be staged to me but that is just one of many opinions that must exist about this fascinating subject. Anyway, when you do a search using ‘man lands in m&m face’ the third option is this blog site. Someone in San Francisco, California is now disappointed they didn’t get to see the musician M&M. On the other hand, hopefully they have discovered a whole new world in the North and have taken the time to explore the other great blogs linked to the right.

No matter how you manage to arrive in this little portion of the World Wide Web I say…

Enjoy and Thank You

Strange Arctic Bird

Ha ha. Someone was flying a kite in the Hamlet a few days ago. Only in the north will you see kids flying kites at -15C. Looked like a lot of fun. Photo is a bit blurry because I cropped it to show the kite. I only had my medium zoom lens on the camera and the kite flying was a long way of.

This is the second post in a row that has photos taken out of my office window. I may have to start a new blog called "Out My Office Window" with a daily photo.

Look a Blog Post!

I've been on a blogging hiatus for a couple of weeks because I've had no way to upload photos on the blog. I lost my USB cable for the camera. Since writing isn't my thing there hasn't been much point in blogging. I've found away around it now and will have several post show up pretty quick.

The photo below is the take one leave one bookshelves at the GN offices in Cape Dorset. The photo is in response to a challenge by the blog The Book Mind Set and the related challenge post can be found here. There is also a few magazines that are available. The quantities available vary and at the moment there wasn't enough to warrant photographing.

Better late than never!

The Glory is Mine

Thanks to the folks who voted for my entry into the caption contest over at House & other Arctic Musings. I don't get a prize just the glory. You just need to go vroom vroom over there and have a look at the photo.
